Last Thursday (5 December) Assistant Minister McBride and Treasurer Jim Chalmers marked a significant milestone: the opening of a new Medicare Mental Health Centre in Logan and the national brand going live across Australia.

“We want every Australian, no matter their postcode, to have access to high quality mental health care and support.” – Assistant Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, The Hon Emma McBride MP.

This initiative reflects the Australian Government’s commitment to more accessible mental health services for all Australians.

“More than half of the 61 Medicare Mental Health Centres are now open and providing free mental health care to everyone who walks through the door, in every state and territory,” the Assistant Minister’s media release states.

Folk is proud to continue our collaboration with the Department of Health and Aged Care on this journey.

Through engagement with more than 500 Australians, we helped guide the transition from Head to Health to the more nationally recognised Medicare brand. As ever welcoming, local and community-focused.

As Head to Health before it, the brand positions the centres as a safe, inclusive and accessible service for everyone (especially priority communities) who may need meaningful professional and peer support.

The priority is to ensure that any of us will feel comfortable using these services. A crucial dimension when there remains a bigger job to do, societally, in reducing the stigma and discrimination attached to mental health.

In the months ahead, all Head to Health locations will adopt the new Medicare Mental Health Centres branding. Within, the inherent commitment remains unchanged: free, walk-in access to immediate and compassionate care, for those in distress, their carers and families.

We’re keen to see the centres continue to expand – allowing for an open, safe space to talk, for all.
